Food for All










Food security is refereed to as the availability one physical and economic access to food that would fill their dietary needs. Most people face health issues around the world is because it relates to their dietary surplus, which is becoming an increasing threat as years go by. While one side of the world has access to food, the other side is facing malnutrion, which is double the burden that those who have access to food. There is three category built upon food security, which are food availability, food access and food use. Food availability is when there is enough food available on constant basis. Food access is where there is availability of resources of food to get hold of to obtain ones nutritious diet. And, food use is when you use basis knowledge on basic nutrition and care, which also includes enough water and sanitation.

But, food security has been a debatable topic arguing four things. First, there has been enough food in the world to feed about everyone effectively, but the issue is sharing. Second, by our current levels of production, looking into the future, future food can or cannot be met. Third, the national food security is dominant, which means that it’s no longer necessary because of global trade. Fourth, there is a possibility that globalization will lead to resolution of food insecurity and create poverty in rural communities.

Enough about what food security is…

What I did for the creative piece for this assignment is a menu, from Rabiga’s Restaurant. I made a menu and when you open it up, right in the middle, is a ‘meal’ of a globe on a plate with a utensils, in its right position. This meal is called, food security, and I made this as my creative assignment because I believe it greatly defines food security based on what I have learned in my Food and Nutrition Science Class. When you think of obesity and healthy problems, the first thing that comes to mind is United States, but little as you know it, Canada, is also at the same state as the United States. People always assume the biggest issue today is obesity caused by eating sugar, salt, white based food, fast food, processed food etc. From what I have learned, study has shown that the biggest challenge that is faced in this century is ensuring stable supply of nutritious food for the world. I drew the United States and Canadian side of the globe for my menu is because countries that have access to food are countries like the United States and Canada. So the menu is presented to someone in North America, who is eating a happy meal, while the other part of the world is suffering from malnutrition. Study had shown that about more than a billion people, mostly in Africa, has suffered from lack of food, while more than about 3 billion people have enough food, but suffer from lack of nutrition, like vitamin A, iron etc. These types of people are found in mostly all continents. Lastly, there have been more than a billion, mostly in North America and Europe where people suffer from food security issues such as over eating. This shows that about half of the world’s population is affected by food security.

I believe the solution for food security is to adopt agricultural production and local farming techniques. These productions should be followed with increase ability to the poor to have access to food and their families have food that will fulfill them.
